“These are the women who redefined what it meant to be both Jewish and female. They navigated these identities and paved the way for a new era of female, American Jewry to fight for our own futures decades later. And they are the ones who made it possible for us, Millennial and Generation X Jewish women, to exist as we do. They overturned assumptions about the roles and duties of Jewish women and knew that we could struggle for justice outside of the role of Rabbi’s wife. These women forged the paths we walk on today.” #womenshistorymonth

“I consider myself Israeli, and I’ve come to realize on my campus that I can closely relate to the Latino community. I find that there are a lot of similarities in how we interact with our parents and loved ones. Both communities tend to be loud and passionate, but also really honest, which I find comforting. Part of my family comes from Argentina, so I’m also just really curious about that part of my background. I think its important to learn more about a community that I work really closely with on my campus but also give them the opportunity to learn more about me. One of the students at this summit is someone I’ve grown close with after going with her on Israel Uncovered and this another opportunity to further grow and enhance our relationship.”⠀

“Relationship building is the perfect way to break down those barriers that we instinctively build from the moment we step foot on campus. It’s not a bad thing that you have friends who look, think, and act like you, but there’s more out there than you may realize. I think The David Project does a really great job of arming you with the tools to not only break down those barriers, but also find and promote meaningful conversations with people in different communities. The concept of dialogue across difference is a great way to bring people together.” #LJU2018

“My dad is Mexican and my mom is an Israeli Jew. For me, it’s been kind of an interesting struggle growing up. People look at me and they say I’m not exactly white, but not Mexican enough to be considered Mexican. I’ve sort of had that struggle of being in between both worlds, though it has allowed me to connect with two very diverse, very beautiful cultures. That’s where a lot of my pride comes from and I’m proud to be a part of both of them.” #LJU2018

“For me, it’s always been kind of this mark of pride to be different. This mark of pride that says I have this culture that’s been passed down for hundreds of years and that three generations ago (the Jewish people) weren’t here, we were somewhere different. Part of what I feel is that I’ve lost some culture that other people have.” #LJU2018

“I identify with (the Latinx community) because I feel like I have experiences and a language that connects me to people. It’s not something universal, its something unique to a specific community of people. I find a lot of value and a lot of power in being able to communicate with individuals of different backgrounds, and building connections with others.” #LJU2018

"Black History Month is special to me because it’s a culmination of African American history and tribute to civil rights. It’s a reminder of why I do what I do. It’s the pulse of my advocacy. Tens of thousands of civil rights leaders lost their lives fighting for my ability to have a seat at the table in today’s world." - Chandler Rankin, University of Cincinnati #blackhistorymonth
