BCAAs vs EAAs. Which should I take?? I strongly believe EAAs are more beneficial than BCAAs for the following reasons. Check out EAA max by and use the code in my bio for 15% off! - Essential amino acids are those that can’t be made by the body and can only be obtained through diet or supplementation. There are nine essential amino acids, 3 of which are also branched chain amino acids (leaucine, isoleucine, and valine). - In most BCAA supplements you only receive 3 of the 9 essential amino acids. These BCAAs are broken down into branched chain oxo acids (BCOAs for short). The BCOAs are used to produce ATP and also activate the rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, which stimulates protein synthesis in the body. This is where all of the hype about BCAAs came from, however there is a catch - TO INCREASE PROTEIN SYNTHESIS ABOVE BASAL LEVEL YOUR BODY REQUIRES ALL NINE ESSENTIAL AMINO ACIDS!!!! In order to build muscle, muscle protein synthesis must be greater than muscle protein breakdown. Since BCAAs do not contain all nine essential amino acids, they are not great for muscle growth. They only help curb muscle breakdown. - When compared to BCAAs, EAAs stimulate a substantially stronger anabolic response. In a recent study scientists gave groups BCAAs, a placebo and a protein containing all 9 essential amino acids. The results showed that BCAA consumption alone does not maximally stimulate myofibrillar-MPS (muscle protein synthesis).
