4 HABITS OF LEAN PEOPLE by @oualidzaim ➖ If you want to stay lean year round & lifelong, you need to make sure you develop the right habits. These 4 habits are among the most important ones of lean people, so it's a great place to start. Of course, they don't work if you eat more than your body needs - you still have to stay in a caloric deficit. Count calories first to develop the right habits, then the right habits will start working for you. ➖ 1⃣ Eat protein in every meal: protein is the most filling macro & the one that requires the most calories for digestion. It blunts hunger and boosts metabolism at the same time. Also you need to eat at least 0.8 g per lb of body weight to maintain muscle mass while you're losing weight so you don't lose muscle. ➖ 2⃣ Don't drink liquid calories: it's impossible to stay in a caloric deficit if you drink liquid calories, with all the options out there nowadays. Lean people only drink water, black coffee & tea, maybe diet soda occasionally. They also drink their fruits and veggies, but that's another story.⠀⠀ ➖ 3⃣ Eat moderate carbs and fats: no, the other 2 macros don't make you fat. You need them if you want to lose fat because they keep you energized & are essential for good hormonal function. However, it's easy to go overboard with carbs and fats so you need to watch your food sources & quantities to make sure you're full & in a caloric deficit at the same time.⠀⠀ ➖ 4⃣ Lift heavy weights: lean people know that cardio is just a tool to be used when necessary, they don't focus on it. They focus on heavy weight training because they know it's the best way to boost metabolism & maintain muscle in a caloric deficit. ➖ Tag someone who needs to see this! 👇 * #caloricdeficit #fatloss #weightloss #liftweights #lift #strengthtraining #bulletproofcoffee #cardio #iifym #flexibledieting #fatlossdiet #fatlossworkout #weightlossworkout #howtolosefat #fit #dieting #lean #liftingheavy #carbs #fats #cleaneating #protein 14 ♡ 1 ✍ March 23

Ladies, if you have ever felt “less than” in the gym check this out👇 @Regrann from @petersoonfit - 6 AREAS WOMEN OUTPERFORM MEN IN THE GYM . Today is International Women’s Day so I thought this repost was apt. Ladies, you belong in the gym just as much as any bro. If you don’t believe me read on. . If you're comparing relative strength, if two men and women had the same sized muscles, they would be practically equal in strength. . In absolute terms men are stronger and faster, but that’s because women have 2/3 of the muscle mass of men. Men of course are lucky bastards, because we don’t have monthly periods, nor do we bare children and give birth. On the positive side, that’s why men leaner. . There are differences in men and women beyond the obvious and they are as follows: . Women can perform more repetitions at a given percentage of their 1RM. So if a guy can do 10 reps with 70% of their 1 RM a women can do more. This is because women have more slow twitch muscle fibres. . I’ve covered this before, women burn more fat during exercise which means they spare muscle glycogen or carbohydrates stored in muscles. . This leads to improved performance because they don’t get tired as easily. And that is partly why they can recover faster than men between sets of exercise. It’s also because women can deliver more oxygen and blood to their muscles. . Recovery between bouts of exercise is also better than men since women have better delivery of nutrients to their muscles, they don’t damage their muscles as much and they repair their muscles faster. . Women have better metabolic health due to higher estrogen levels which leads to better insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake. . Oh there are more differences I didn’t mention on the infographic. Women listen and take instruction much better and learn the exercise technique faster and better than men. True story. . In summary, women are awesome! . If you have any questions don’t forget to ask either in the comments or inbox 4 ♡ 0 ✍ March 23

“Remember that I am not this disease. I am not the sensations. I am not the emotions of frustration. I am not the guilt. I AM the awareness that knows no sorrow. I don’t want sympathy. All I want to do is show you that I am not impervious to T1D. All we can do is keep our chins up and move forward with strength and integrity.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For Evan Soroka (@diabeticyogini), who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13, the hardest part about living with type 1 is the “constant need to be on guard.” When people have type 1 diabetes, it means their pancreas produces little or no insulin. Insulin is crucial because it breaks down glucose from food, which cells then use to create energy. When the body doesn't produce insulin, glucose stays in the bloodstream and blood sugar levels spike—potentially causing fatigue, headaches, and blurred vision among other symptoms. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Managing type 1 diabetes requires constantly monitoring glucose levels and administering insulin accordingly through injections or a pump. “With trial, error, patience and preparation you learn how to navigate type 1 diabetes,” Soroka tells SELF via email. But truly “any small misstep could cost me my life.” Before any type of activity, Soroka must carefully consider the duration and level of intensity to make sure she has enough supplies on hand. This means packing extra glucose, durable medical supplies, and the correct type of insulin so she’s covered in any situation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Despite the physical and emotional challenges that come with type 1 diabetes, Soroka sees her disease as a “blessing” because it teaches her to appreciate how fragile life really is. “Let the challenges be your strengths,” she says. “Let it inspire you to keep going and do something impactful with this gift that is your life.” Tap the link in our bio to learn more about diabetes symptoms and how the condition affects people who have it. 📷: @diabeticyogini | 📝: @lesliehgreen | #TeamSELF #TeamSELFRegram #t1diabetes #t1d #diabetes 13 ♡ 0 ✍ March 23
