The Passage of Time - star trail of about 2 1/2 hours at Lake Clifton in Western Australia. Foam drifts around the thrombolites (fragile ancient structures built by micro-organisms). In this world where there is such a flurry of data being thrown at us each minute, it's sometimes hard to stay focused on the important things in our lives. I make it a note to stop regularly to make sure that I'm heading in the right direction, still not easy due to the number or role hats that I wear. Canon 6d 17-40mm F4

I was out at a business sundowner for Western Suburbs Business Association in #Perth at @claremontpizza and setup a timelapse. Cloud cover was pretty heavy, but you plan for the possible rewards and sometimes it comes pops. Met lots of nice people and the pizza and food was great. I think that the Tipis get hired for events as well.
No this is not a sponsored post - I just wander around and photograph.

Alice "'Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?' 'That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the Cat. 'I don't much care where - ' said Alice. 'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat. '- so long as I get SOMEWHERE,' Alice added as an explanation. 'Oh, you're sure to do that,' said the Cat, 'if you only walk long enough'" ~ Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass. Looking at this sculpture with the reflections of mirrors reminded me of this part of Alice in Wonderland.

It's International Women's Day today - here is to all the fantastic women in my life :). I am still find it hard to believe in 2018 the amount of inequality that exists ... that underlying attitudes still persist despite appearances on the face of things promoting equality. Here's a photo of a nice friend of mine Nicole photographing the milky way :) #astrophotography #panorama #milkyway #landscape #perth #westernaustralia #longexposure 1339 ♡ 11 ✍
The West Australian Opera has Opera at the Pinnacles again this year - go and book on their fb page. Very honoured to have one of my images supporting the event. #perth #westernaustralia #astrophotography #panorama #milkyway #longexposure 169 ♡ 11 ✍
A little fun and motivation - years ago I bought a couple of decks of cards called "the bigger picture" - it's a little photography challenge game, you have 2 decks - and draw one from each deck to work out your challenge.

COMPOSITE - I don't normally composite images (especially astrophotography) but sometimes composites form part of your overall photographic tool kit. I think it's knowledge is important because you never know when you will need to apply it. 50mm tracked image composited onto a panorama stitch.

"We say we waste time, but that is impossible. We waste ourselves" - Alice Bloch.
It's almost the weekend :P I have lots on, but I'm going to make sure I set some time aside to practice some photography for myself. I find photography helps me notice and appreciate things more :) #longexposure #landscape #perth #westernaustralia #canonaustralia 1264 ♡ 31 ✍
You have to wake up to see the sunrise :) - nice dawn this morning over #Perth #Westernaustralia - I went for a hike with some nice people this morning. #landscape #sunrise 793 ♡ 14 ✍
I think that even if you're very busy (in fact especially so), it's important to regularly stop for a moment, get a birds-eye view of where you are and if you're heading in the right direction. Not very good being flat out busy and then finding that you've been travelling in the wrong direction for months. #aerialphotography #djimavicpro #westernaustralia #landscape #selfie 528 ♡ 5 ✍
I photograph more than just landscapes and astrophotography :P - Sundowner event for the Western Suburbs Business Association at Pragma Legal in Subiaco. Was a good event. I thought I'd post up some snippets of other things that I photography #perth #westernaustralia #networking 245 ♡ 9 ✍
- Another World - self portrait panorama from my recent trip out to dry salt lakes in Western Australia. The window of opportunity appears to be quite small at the beginning of milky way season - the difference of a couple of weeks can dramatically change their appearance as the pressure ridges may rupture. High temperatures and low rainfall (despite storms nearby) gave me some confidence that the pressure ridges maybe evident. Arriving at my first destination in 40C (104F) temperature I was greeted by what I had been seeking for the past few years. I launched my drone to help do some scouting. I had a few technical issues as my phone appears to be dying and it kept disconnecting from the drone requiring me to work on reconnecting or bringing it back home. Satisfied with the scout, I foot slogged it out to where the ridges had not yet cracked yet formed enough texture that I wanted - and used my hand held gps to mark the locations for setting up 2 cameras for later. Trudging on the dry salt sounds a bit like hiking on hardened snow - that slight crunch under my boots. Getting up at 11:30pm (after 3-4 hours sleep)- I made my way back out into the dry lake and setup a timelapse. While waiting, I just enjoyed the silence and the stars - counting maybe a dozen meteors streak through the sky and feeling very small against the milky way. The last time I imaged from here there was intense green airglow and it was repeated again that night. The crescent moon rising helped to light up the foreground and bring out more of the textures.

Sometimes being under pressure can mean you can appreciate things more. I had pretty much packed up after the pre-dawn light had smothered the milky way and the stars. However, a brilliant band of gold on the horizon made me pause and get the camera back out.

I was listening to @rachaelkable 's mindfulness podcast about having a mentor (go and have a listen). Photographically - I've had people that I respect give me some mentorship in the past that certainly assisted me with my growth and I am very grateful for that. On the flipside - as a mentor, there are a lot of benefits to mentoring others. I find assisting the development either on a one to one or group arrangements to be beneficial, not only in one of my underlying purposes about improving things for others, but it also provides my own reflective soundboard - when you help with constructive advice to others, you also reflect back as to why something works (or doesn't) or needs improvement and that further develops myself. Having mentored people in the past - it's important to identify the parameters and timeframe for a mentoring relationship, an open mentoring maybe ambiguous and less effective. Have you mentored or been mentored before? how did it go?

The great cotton bud (cotton tip) in the sky. When we had the lunar eclipse - I was doing a timelapse - and when you stack it together - it looks like a giant cotton tip :P. I left a break in the stack and had the moon at the tip.
